A24’s Elden Ring Movie Could Have a 3-Hour Runtime

Not only is Alex Garland’s upcoming adaptation of Elden Ring going to be one of the most expensive movies ever made, but it’s also going to be a pretty beefy experience too, from the looks of it.

In a new report from Deadline, Elden Ring will be heading to the American Film Market where Garland and A24 will be looking for partners. The budget reportedly ranges between $175-200 million, “but closer to the latter”, and the project is already in post-production. There’s no set release date just yet, though it does have a release window of 2028 and will get an IMAX release.

In addition to that, Deadline’s report also states that Amazon MGM Studios has taken an interest in the project “by taking a bunch of international pay-1 streaming rights off the table in a big deal.” This deal will cover a “large number of international markets” and it’s also possible that we could see “interesting activations” on Twitch.

Despite it being one of the biggest budget movies ever, it does sound like Elden Ring doesn’t have much to worry about in terms of buyer and distributor interest, though I’m still curious about how it’ll actually adapt a story that’s conveyed so abstractly in the source material.

Finally, the report also states that A24 has been flying out members of its team to meet with international buyers to allow them to read the script. According to the report, the script “runs to at least 180 pages with visuals, implying the movie could push towards three hours”.

At present, the Elden Ring movie cast features the following names:

  • Kit Connor
  • Ben Whishaw
  • Cailee Spaeny
  • Tom Burke
  • Havana Rose Liu
  • Sonoya Mizuno
  • Jonathan Pryce
  • Ruby Cruz
  • Nick Offerman

Elden Ring is now available on PC and consoles, with the movie adaptation to be released in 2028.
