It’s that time of year again where Square Enix starts ramping up the marketing for Final Fantasy XIV and its upcoming expansion, Evercold. Oh, and FFXIV is also coming to the Switch 2, which would normally be a dream, except wait till you hear just how big that damn install size is.
FFXIV now has an eShop listing and, get ready for this, it will take up 117.2GB of space on your Switch 2. This really shouldn’t come as a surprise if you’ve previously played this game on other platforms like PC or PS5. When the Switch 2 port got announced, I did wonder how that game would run on Nintendo’s console, and just how much space it would take up. This is a game with a ton of expansions, each one adding plenty of giant areas and cities for you to run around in.
It’s worth noting that the Switch 2’s internal storage will be able to accommodate FFXIV, but it’s more likely that most players would have to get an SD card for it. This install size will include the base game and all previously released expansions: A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail. However, you’ll probably need to set aside more space for Evercold when that drops. This is a game that’s only going to keep increasing in size. It’s a monster! And I thought FFVII Rebirth‘s 91.8GB install size was bad.
Just this past weekend, we got plenty of other news about Evercold too, including a look at the upcoming Bastion tank job. Naoki Yoshida also announced a FFVII collaboration for this expansion, and the release date for the Switch 2 version. There was also a new extended trailer for the expansion, which you can check out below:
Final Fantasy XIV will be available for the Switch 2 on Aug. 4. Evercold is set to be released in early 2027.
