The Most Exciting Game Announcements From Summer Game Fest 2026

In case you weren’t keeping up to date with the happenings of the games industry, we actually get two Geoff Keighley events a year. The Game Awards, which happens in December, is the one you’re more likely to have heard of, but we can’t forget Summer Game Fest either. This is basically the big E3 replacement, where plenty of developers and publishers get together and show off what they’re working on. Alright, enough preamble. Here are the biggest announcements from Summer Game Fest 2026.

Resident Evil Veronica (2027)

Holy shit. Capcom actually did it. I’d been bitching at them for years, even as they were putting out awesome Resident Evil games like Requiem, to just bring back Claire Redfield already. I’d still love to see Claire in a brand new Resident Evil game, but I will take this 100%.

Resident Evil Veronica is a remake of Code: Veronica, which stars Claire Redfield on a journey to look for her brother Chris. This is one of the more notoriously difficult games in the series, but that could change with this remake. It’s unclear whether this will be a first- or third-person title, though it’s worth noting that all of the Resident Evil remakes so far have played out in third-person.

Alien Isolation 2

I’ll be real with you. I never beat Alien Isolation, not because it wasn’t good, but because I was too much of a scaredy cat to see it through. Personally, I’m not a fan of survival horror games that focus more on hiding than fighting back (it’s why I love Resident Evil so much), but I really loved the vibe and aesthetic of Isolation. It helps that I actually enjoy the Alien franchise too, and I’m always going to advocate for video game adaptations that actually understand the source material.

Anyway, in case you didn’t realize, this is Alien Isolation 2, taking place on an entirely new planet. We also get a glimpse of the iconic Xenomorph, which is always exciting.

gen ATLAS

Fumito Ueda is known for making Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian. With that in mind, you certainly wouldn’t have expected his next project to be some sort of sci-fi odyssey with third-person shooter mechanics. We don’t know enough about gen ATLAS just yet, but it’s definitely intriguing.

Stranger Than Heaven (Jan. 15, 2027)

I’ll be real, games like Yakuza and Judgement have never really been my thing, but RGG Studio’s new project Stranger Than Heaven has my attention. I think it’s because it feels a lot more gritty and dark than the studio’s previous titles, and I’d definitely be more than willing to give this one a shot. Also, Tupac’s in this game! What?!

1666 Amsterdam

I was convinced this had to be the new Assassin’s Creed game or something, but it started looking way too cool to just be that. 1666 Amsterdam is a new game that seems to take its cues from witch lore, with plenty of cats to boot. The combat looks pretty awesome, with the main character casting spells, slashing at her foes with blood, and it all looks very enticing. The prologue is now available for download on the Epic Games Store.

Attack on Titan 3 (July 1, 2026)

Y’all have no idea how much I love Attack on Titan. I love it so much it pains me that the anime ended years ago and is no longer in the cultural zeitgeist, which means that my gacha games are less likely to do AoT collabs, and it’s only going to get more difficult finding cool AoT merch. So imagine my elation when good ol’ Koei Tecmo announced that they are making yet another Attack on Titan game that finally covers the entire story.

I’ve played the crap out of the first two games, and you can bet I’ll be picking this one up too. You can take my heart, Koei Tecmo.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation (2027)

In 2015, I attended my very first E3. That’s where Square Enix first announced Final Fantasy VII Remake. It’s been 11 years since then, which is crazy to me, because I can’t believe I’m actually gonna live to see this company finish up their remake trilogy. Final Fantasy VII Revelation looks fantastic, and it’s set to wrap up the Sephiroth saga with the whole crew finally together.

I loved how ballsy Remake was with changing up key elements of the story, and I absolutely cannot wait to see them stick the landing with this one.

And those are my picks for the most exciting game announcements from Summer Game Fest 2026. There were a few other titles that piqued my interest too, including Virtua Fighter Crossroads. I’ve never played a Virtua Fighter game if I’m being honest and I don’t really know what it’s all about, but I am a sucker for stories about Chinese gangsters so I’m gonna keep an eye on this at least. That new Among Us story game also looks pretty rad. I guess it’d be weird if I didn’t at least mention The Wolf Among Us 2, but to be honest, I didn’t think the first game was all that good. Maybe I’ll change my mind now that I’m looking at it with an older set of eyes?
