It’s very weird that Persona 6 was unveiled at the Xbox Showcase, of all places, especially since the Xbox brand has never particularly been known to be a strong JRPG advocate. But I digress. This is not a drill! We all knew it was probably coming at some point this year, but it’s still exciting nonetheless. Persona 6 has been announced, though Atlus has yet to even give us a release window.
First off, you can check out the reveal trailer here.
Okay so let’s speculate some. Persona 4 Revival will be out in February 2027. Depending on how far along the game is in its development cycle, it’s entirely possible that we could see it in the tail-end of 2027 too. Lest we forget, Atlus did release both Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor Re:Fantazio in the same year with similar release windows, so it’s not out of the question. That’s me being optimistic though; I think it’s more likely that we see this one sometime in 2028 instead.
Secondly, can we talk about that green color scheme?! I mean, yes, we all expected green would be the primary color for Persona 6, but I think most people probably expected a brighter green, not this gooey-looking Ghostbuster grime green. The trailer doesn’t give away much, save for a pan over some gravestones and a shadow cast on a statue in a graveyard. Not much to go on, no, but I do love how much darker and grittier it is compared with the past three games in the series.
According to the game description on the Xbox store, Persona 6 will explore paranormal happenings and occult activity. Oh, so that’s why we’re getting Ghostbusters green. We’re actually ghostbusting in this one. Hey, it’s also Scooby Doo green now that I think about it. It makes so much sense now.
It gives me a bit of hope that Atlus might be looking back to their Shin Megami Tensei roots for inspiration and making a more mature Persona game. But then again, Persona 5 did also have a pretty edgy reveal trailer with those black chairs and handcuffs against the foreboding red background. Fool me once and all that.
Still, it’s exciting to finally get official confirmation on Persona 6‘s existence. It’ll be on every platform except Switch 2 at launch, which baffles me. The JRPG genre was made for the Switch. Get it on there already!
