Nintendo Announces Link & Zelda Actors For The Legend of Zelda Movie

We’ve still got a long way to go before we’ll get to see The Legend of Zelda movie adaptation, but Nintendo has finally announced the actors who will play Link and Zelda.

Via a tweet from Shigeru Miyamoto, Bo Bragason will play Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link. Both actors are relatively new, which in my view is a good thing. You kinda want to start with a blank slate especially for an IP as big as The Legend of Zelda. We’d previously learned that Nintendo was specifically looking for actors aged between 16 to 23, so this tracks. We’ve yet to hear anything more about other major characters, including Ganondorf and Impa.

Bragason has previously appeared in the Netflix production Renegade Nell and BBC’s The Jetty. Ainsworth, on the other hand, scored a role in The Haunting of Bly Manor. This will likely be the biggest project both actors have ever taken on and it’ll be exciting to see how they do as these iconic fantasy characters.

The pictures shared by Miyamoto seem to showcase them in costume for the movie. Zelda is in a blue dress, and the color sure looks a lot like the same shade as Link’s Hyrule Tunic in Breath of the Wild. Meanwhile, Link is in what looks like a darker green tunic, a color fit for his role.

In other Zelda-related news, Tears of the Kingdom got a Switch 2 upgrade with the console launch last month and now runs at a smooth 60fps. Switch 2 players can also look forward to even more Zelda content when Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment launches later this year. It’s not a mainline entry, but it is a musou-style game with tons of hack-and-slash action for those who love that sort of thing. It’s also considered canon in the Zelda timeline, for what it’s worth.

The Legend of Zelda movie adaptation is set to premiere on May 7, 2027.
