Kingdom Hearts IV Is Still a Thing; Here are Some New Screenshots

I can’t have been the only one who forgot that Kingdom Hearts IV actually got announced, right?

Anyway, Square Enix officially announced that they were working on the game back in April 2022, just three years after Kingdom Hearts III. Today is the first time we’re hearing about the game again since that initial announcement. A few new screenshots have been posted on the official Kingdom Hearts X/Twitter account, as shown below:

To go along with the screenshots, Square Enix also offered the following statement:

“To our Kingdom Hearts community,

We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts IV and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!

We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support.”

Kingdom Hearts IV will mark the start of a brand new storyline featuring the return of series protagonist Sora. Titled “Lost Master Arc”, this storyline starts off with Sora fighting a giant monster called the Quadratum, a far cry from the Heartless and Nobodies. It’s also set in a very realistic and modern-looking cityscape, unlike what you’d typically expect from a Kingdom Hearts game — a series known for bringing players into iconic Disney locales.

Donald and Goofy will also make a return in Kingdom Hearts IV, so Disney fans can rest assured that the latest entry in the series will still retain that Disney charm.

The first Kingdom Hearts game was released for the PS2 back in 2002. It tells the story of Sora, who lives on a beautiful island with no worries. One day, a storm completely wrecks the island and separates him from his two friends, and he finds himself jumping between different worlds in an effort to look for them. Kingdom Hearts allowed players to visit various Disney worlds and also included iconic characters like Tarzan, Maleficent, and Peter Pan, just to name a few.

There’s no word on a release window for Kingdom Hearts IV just yet.
