It Seems Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Wants to Keep Us Trapped in the Three Houses Discourse Forever

The Fire Emblem series saw a massive surge in popularity with the release of Fire Emblem: Awakening on the 3DS, and the ball just hasn’t stopped rolling since then. The series reached critical mass with Fire Emblem: Three Houses on the Switch back in 2019, and with the reveal of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave for the Switch 2, it looks like Intelligent Systems wants to build upon Three Houses even further to keep us invested. And you know what? That’s perfectly fine with me.

At this week’s Nintendo Direct, Intelligent Systems unveiled the first trailer for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, which you can check out for yourself down below:

The game shows off an entirely new cast of characters, but as you keep watching, Three Houses fans may start to notice a few familiar elements. For starters, we get glimpses of what look like Hero’s Relics and Crest Weapons from Three Houses, and even a Demonic Beast-looking monster. Then, the kicker comes at the end of the trailer when we see a grown up Sothis sitting on the throne, voiced by none other than Cassandra Lee Morris.

Most importantly, Sothis asks, “Have you forgotten me so soon?” Which has to be a clear indication that Fortune’s Weave is directly linked to Three Houses, right? I mean, what else could it be, right? What’s interesting is that it’s actually hard to tell whether Fortune’s Weave‘s time period is set before or after Three Houses. It honestly could go either way. Whatever it is, I’ll be there on day one and we’ll be keeping up-to-date with the game’s latest news.

In all that excitement, I almost forgot that this is a news article and I should at least give an overview of what the series is actually about, just in case you’re new. Fire Emblem is a tactical RPG series where you move your units around on a gridded map to fight your enemies. As you level up, you get to choose new jobs for your units, and there’s also a romance system where units who get close to each other will unlock support conversations. It’s basically a shipper’s paradise combined with genuinely fun tactical RPG elements, but really, it’s the former that propelled it back into popularity.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is set to be released for the Switch 2 in 2026.
