Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Has Wrapped Up Performance Capture Shooting

There’s still a lot we don’t know about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the upcoming sci-fi game from Naughty Dog, apart from the fact that its title is a mouthful. But we do know this: performance capture for the game has wrapped up, which suggests that the game may be entering its final stages of development.

Naughty Dog confirmed via a tweet today that the team had just wrapped up performance capture with the actors for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. While there’s still no indication of when the game will actually be released, it’s worth noting that this means that all of the story content has been captured and filmed. Of course, there’s still plenty of post-production things to do, not to mention gameplay systems that will likely need to be worked on further, but at the very least, the story side of things should be largely done and dusted.

If I had to guess, I’d say we’re probably another year or so away from launch. Intergalactic was originally announced two years ago at The Game Awards, and apart from a very fancy CGI cutscene featuring Tati Gabrielle in the lead role, we’ve heard basically nothing else about it. Oh I guess we did learn that Neil Druckmann offered Tony Dalton a role in the game as well. Dalton is best known for playing Lalo Salamanca in Better Call Saul, and also played Joel’s dad in HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2. Yeah I’d certainly love to see Lalo in a Naughty Dog game. Why not?

I don’t know enough about Intergalactic just yet to have any sort of an informed opinion about it beyond “it looks good”, but with Dalton and Gabrielle in the cast, I’ll be interested to see where Neil Druckmann goes next, now that The Last of Us is done and dusted, at the very least.

Another thing that’s worth noting is that PlayStation will be hosting a State of Play presentation this month, so I guess it’s possible we could see more of the game then too. We’ll see.
