HBO’s TV adaptation of Harry Potter is still a ways away, but we finally know who’s going to be playing the main trio. Casting directors have announced that Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley, according to a report from Variety.

HBO put out a casting call last Fall, with more than 30,000 actors auditioning for the lead roles. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod stated:
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.

We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
Harry Potter is a series of seven novels written by J.K. Rowling, and was lated adapted into a movie series starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Waton, and Rupert Grint. The three new actors for the TV adaptation are mostly newcomers, though McLaughlin is set to appear in Grow alongside Nick Frost, while Stanton has performed in Matilda: The Musical on West End, as Matilda herself.
Other cast members for the TV show include John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Filch. Based on the casting along, we can surmise that Season 1 will likely be centered around the Philosopher’s Stone story, and go from there. Overall, it’s a pretty solid cast which makes the idea of a Harry Potter adaptation sound pretty exciting. Hopefully it does a lot better than that other adaptation that just wrapped up its second season…
HBO’s Harry Potter is set to be released in 2026.
