Final Fantasy VII Revelation marks the third and final chapter in Square Enix’s ambitious remake trilogy of the beloved PS1 game. The game is set to release in the first half of 2027, and already speculation is running rampant as a new store leak on EpicDB suggests that we might see story expansions or DLC for it.
According to the listing, Final Fantasy VII Revelation could have a Story Expansion Pass, which suggests that there will be fresh story content to look forward to even after the game is over. It’s no secret that Final Fantasy VII‘s story spans multiple mediums, including spinoff games and even a feature-length movie with Advent Children. There’s so much to the world of Gaia that I’m not surprised by the notion of adding even more story content to the game.
It’s worth noting that we did get story DLC for FFVII Remake in the form of Intergrade, which introduced an entirely new side story featuring Yuffie and newcomer Sonon. In that chapter, players got to explore different parts of Midgar with Yuffie and learn more about her motivations and Wutai, setting up her appearance for Rebirth. On the other hand, FFVII Rebirth did not get any story DLC, which is actually kinda surprising as I thought this would’ve been the perfect opportunity to sprinkle in some Dirge of Cerberus or Advent Children content in there. But I guess we could just see that in Revelation instead.
Anywho, this is all just speculation for now, and I suspect we won’t really have to wait all that long for the answers to start trickling in. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is probably only about a year away from release, and it’ll be very exciting to see how Square Enix ties everything together, and if they stick the landing. Now, back to my Switch 2 playthrough of Rebirth…
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be released for PC and consoles in 2027.
