A Metal Gear Solid 4 Remake Would Be “Quite a Challenge” For Konami

Konami’s back on the upswing, not just with new games like Silent Hill f, but remakes of older ones like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Silent Hill 2. In a recent interview with Real Sound, series producer Noriaki Okamura spoke a little bit about what’s next for Metal Gear, and also provided some insight into Metal Gear Solid 4 and what it would take to remake that game.

For now, Okamura has stated that the team is still “thinking about what to make next”. With Delta being a prime opportunity for new players to experience the Metal Gear series, Okamura states that he does want to continue on that trend. He went on to say that this doesn’t mean they would remake every game in the same way. Rather, Konami plans on finding the best approach for each entry.

Continuing the Metal Gear legacy doesn’t just mean remaking old games either, and Okamura teased that they might challenge themselves by creating a brand new game.

When the topic of Metal Gear Solid 4 came up, however, Okamura was less upbeat. He stated that MGS4 “ended up with some pretty unique code” due to hardware constraints and specific designs required to get the most out of the 3D technology available during that time. Because of its code, it seems it would be difficult to remake Metal Gear Solid 4.

At the time of writing, MGS4 is the only game in the series that’s only available on one platform: the PS3. Everything about that game was made with the PS3 in mind as well, down to the writing, which can’t be easy for the development team to simply port it over to modern consoles, I imagine. Still, it’s an incredibly important entry in the series due to the fact that it actively wraps up Solid Snake’s arc.

There’s no word on when the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 will be out, or if it’ll include Metal Gear Solid 4.
