Will We Finally See Hollow Knight: Silksong at Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase?

Look, I’m not even a fan of Hollow Knight but I’m invested at this point. Team Cherry’s acclaimed Metroidvania Souls-like game has been teased to get a follow-up title called Silksong for years. The game is set to start Hornet as the main playable character, which should be very exciting for fans.

The problem? Silksong has basically gone AWOL for the past few years. While it’s been making little appearances in sizzle reels at various video game showcases, not once have we actually gotten a concrete release date from Team Cherry themselves. The game is still listed for a 2025 release, but with how silent the development team has been, even that is hard to believe. That being said, hope still lives for Silksong fans, as Nintendo has announced their next Indie World Showcase for this week.

The livestream will take place on Aug. 7, at 6 a.m. Pacific Time. Or 9 a.m. Eastern Time for East Coast folks, and 9 p.m. SGT for my fellow Singaporeans. The stream itself will be hosted on Nintendo’s YouTube channel.

So yeah. Hollow Knight counts as an indie game right? Team Cherry is an independent developer, yes? And one could certainly argue that Hollow Knight really only ballooned in popularity when it released on Switch, so it makes sense that we could get a solid release date for Silksong at Nintendo’s showcase, yes? One can hope.

I’ll be tuning into the Indie World Showcase myself this week and keep you apprised of anything interesting that gets announced. I may not necessarily pick up Silksong myself whenever it does release, but I certainly have my fingers crossed for those who have been waiting for it.

Hollow Knight was originally released back in 2017 and was lauded for its brilliant game design and adorable characters. While the entire game’s population comprises of bugs (literally), Team Cherry somehow managed to make them look cute.
