The Pitt Season 3 Has Been Greenlit Ahead of Season 2 Debut

You could make a very strong case for The Pitt being one of the best original TV shows to debut in 2025. And its second season will be airing today! Even before the official Season 2 debut, Warner Brothers and HBO have already greenlit the show for a third season.

During the show’s Season 2 premiere event in Los Angeles, HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys announced that The Pitt has officially been renewed for a Season 3. And that’s it. That’s the news.

The Pitt was originally conceived by Noah Wyle, R. Scott Gemmill, and John Wells, all ER alums. The first season featured 15 episodes, structured in a way that each episode would cover one hour of the emergency room shift. Things get pretty crazy towards the end of course, and the shift goes into overtime as the doctors and surgeons do their best to save all the lives they can. While Season 1 started off a little slow for me, it hit its stride around the four-hour mark and by then, I was fully invested.

The Pitt Season 2 is back just a year after the first season aired, and it follows a similar structure. This time, the shift is set during the 4th of July weekend, which means you can probably expect all sorts of gnarly fireworks-related injuries onscreen. The show has made no secret about touching on real life themes and issues, including Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, which threatens to further cut healthcare budgets.

Season 2 brings back most of the main cast from Season 1 including Noah Wyle, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, and Sepideh Moafi, who plays Dr. Al-Hashimi, a newcomer in the ER.

The Pitt is now available for streaming on HBO Max.
