The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Is Available Now

Rumors of the fabled Oblivion remake/remaster have been floating around for a while now, and it’s finally official. Bethesda announced in a livestream today that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now available on PC and consoles. To make things even better, it’s also on Xbox Game Pass.

Bethesda partnered up with Virtuos to work on the Oblivion remaster. The developers wanted to make the remaster a more friendly version for players with modern hardware. This means streamlining and polishing a few mechanics that might feel a little dated at this point. The most obvious changes here are in the combat, which definitely feels a lot less clunky in this new version.

You can check out the official gameplay trailer down below:

All of the story expansions have been packed into the Oblivion remaster as well, including Shivering Isles. We get a quick look at some of the more iconic locales in the game, along with enemy types and cities.

There’s also a Deluxe Edition for the game, which comes with the following goodies:

  • New quests for unique Akatosh and Mehrunes Dagon armors, weapons, and horse armor sets.
    • Armor of Order and Armor of Cataclysm
    • Weapon or Order and Weapon or Cataclysm

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was originally released back in 2006, and it’s an open-world RPG that allows players to explore freely. The game is set in a province called Cryodiil (still in Tamriel), and the story begins when the player character wakes up in jail, having been captured for an unknown crime. In true Elder Scrolls fashion, you’re then tasked with figuring out your past, while also getting caught up in a wave of political intrigue.

Just like other games in the series, you’ll get to create your own character, choose their race, and take on the world however you wish. Though if you’re anything like me, you’ll probably just get lost doing side quests and never actually tackle the main story.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now available on PS5, Xbox, and PC.
