Supergirl’s First Teaser Trailer Is Out & We Love a Hot Mess Protagonist

We’ve still got quite a ways to go before the release of the next big DC movie, but the first teaser trailer for Supergirl has just dropped and it’s looking pretty promising so far. You can check out the teaser trailer for yourself down below:

Supergirl stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. Just like Superman, she survived the destruction of Krypton. But unlike Superman who sees the good in everyone, she “sees the truth”. Kara is a lot more cynical than her cousin and the upcoming Supergirl movie, which is based on Woman of Tomorrow, will depict her as more of a broken protagonist who isn’t quite as happy clappy as Clark Kent. After all, they’ve both had vastly different upbringings, and thus view the world differently.

The trailer gives us a quick look at some of the main players in Supergirl, lots of shots of Kara drinking in bars, and of course, the ever-adorable Krypto, who was undoubtedly the star of the show in 2025’s Superman. The Woman of Tomorrow comic took inspiration from True Grit, where a young girl whose father has been murdered approaches Kara for help on a revenge quest. Audiences can expect the Supergirl movie to be quite a bit more mature than Superman which, by the way, is getting a follow-up with Nicholas Hoult back in the saddle as Lex Luthor.

Milly Alcock is best known for playing a young Rhaenyra in HBO’s House of the Dragon, and was honestly arguably the star of that mess of a show. She made a small cameo appearance in Superman this year, where she stumbled into the Fortress of Solitude, drunk, to collect Krypto and leave. This movie will feature her in the leading role, and it’ll certainly be exciting to see what she does with it.

Supergirl is set to air in theaters on June 26, 2026.
