If there’s anything that can get me excited about a Final Fantasy game, it’s watching the good guys ride across green, open fields on chocoboback. Final Fantasy XIV did the same with A Realm Reborn, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will be my first time checking out the classic tactical RPG proper, and I gotta say, that opening movie is really doing it for me.
As we inch closer to the release of Ivalice Chronicles, Square Enix has deigned to release the Enhanced Opening Movie for the remake, which you can check out for yourself down below:
The opening movie hasn’t changed one bit, though it certainly looks a lot nicer and cleaner. You’ve still got the beautiful shaded graphics and the stop-motion-y quality of the cutscenes, which help add charm to Akihiko Yoshida’s iconic artwork. The movie shows off our two main characters riding hard across a field on chocobos, which leads into the first main battle of the game.
The Ivalice Chronicles keeps things largely the same, though there are quite a few improvements to look forward to. There’s full English voice acting, and the voice cast itself is pretty stacked with big names that have been featured in past Final Fantasy games, including Ben Starr and Timothy Watson. In addition to that, players can also opt to play the game in the original graphics rather than the cleaned up version, which I imagine will appeal to a lot of longtime fans. There’s also new conversations and dialogue to look forward to, and the script itself has also been revised.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will be released for PC and consoles on Sept. 30.
