With less than a month to go before Resident Evil Requiem drops, Capcom wants to remind us how terrifying the zombies can be when you’re not a wrestling, suplexing superhero like Leon S. Kennedy. You can check out the short film for yourself down below:
The movie follows the story of a young girl and her mother during the Raccoon City outbreak. The city gets overrun, and we even get a very brief glimpse of Nemesis’ silhouette as he yells “STARS!” in the background. We see a quick clip of the pair hiding out at the RPD, but they don’t remain hidden for long as a licker slowly makes its way towards them.
Overall, it’s actually quite a moving short film, which is unexpected for a series like Resident Evil that’s always been known to be somewhat campy. Jill sandwich and masters of lockpicking, anyone? Still, it’s nice to get a look at Raccoon City in the aftermath of the outbreak, and it certainly sets the scene for what’s to come in Resident Evil Requiem. In fact, the mainline series has always been centered around these larger-than-life characters, and aside from the first three or so games, it’s rare to get that everyman experience.
Resident Evil Requiem features a dual protagonist setup with series Leon S. Kennedy and newcomer Grace Ashcroft, whose mother Alyssa was featured as a playable character in Resident Evil Outbreak. Both protagonists will have vastly different play styles; Leon, of course, will be a master of melee and firearms, while Grace’s sections will likely be more survival-focused as she doesn’t have quite as much combat experience as the former. This game will also feature special zombie types that may prove to be a little trickier to deal with than before.
Resident Evil Requiem is set to be released for PC and consoles on Feb. 27, 2026.
