Persona 5: The Phantom X Could Finally Be Getting a Global Release

Persona 5: The Phantom X is a mobile RPG and spin-off of Atlus’s hit game Persona 5. It was released in open beta in China last year, but it looks like we may be inching towards a global release very soon.

We got a little teaser from the official Atlus West account on Twitter/X, showing off The Phantom X logo. The tweet also included the owl emoji — a reference to the owl-themed mascot of The Phantom X.

So far, the beta is only available for folks in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, and Japan. Notably, my homies in Singapore have been excluded. Hopefully, the global release tease means that everyone else from the other parts of the world will be able to check out the game as well.

Persona 5: The Phantom X is set in modern-day Tokyo, not unlike the original Persona 5. It doesn’t feature the original Phantom Thieves, and instead introduces a new cast of characters. A lot of elements from P5 are brought over, though, including social simulation elements, dungeon-crawling in the Metaverse, as well as the ability to spend your free time with friends or on other activities.

Because this is a mobile game, naturally there are gacha elements to expect here as well. The original Phantom Thieves can be summoned through the gacha system, allowing you to slot them into your party for combat. Character designer Shigenori Soejima was also involved in the project and helped to design the new protagonist Wonder and his Persona, and the new main theme was also composed and performed by Ryota Kozuka and Lyn.

We already know that Persona 5: The Phantom X is getting a Summer 2025 release in Japan, and that there will be a livestream held on May 15 where more details will be shared. This livestream will also include information on the English localization, and hopefully the global launch won’t be too far behind.
