Peacemaker Season 2 Will Directly Build Up to Superman: Man of Tomorrow

Right after watching 2025’s Superman, I was just thinking to myself that it was nice being able to watch a superhero movie without having to watch a ton of other shows and movies to understand who’s who and what’s going on. Well, it looks like the DCU may not stay in that honeymoon period for long. Teasing this week’s episode of Peacemaker on Instagram, James Gunn stated that Peacemaker Season 2 is basically a prequel to Superman: Man of Tomorrow.

For context, Superman: Man of Tomorrow is the next big Superman movie that’s coming out in July 2027, after next year’s Supergirl. The movie will see the return of David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and both characters will likely work together against a common threat. On Instagram, Gunn referred to Peacemaker Season 2 as the “Man of Tomorrow prequel.” Understandably, fans doubted him in the comments, stating that the show would likely build up to Man of Tomorrow but wouldn’t directly lead into it especially if there are other projects in-between. To which Gunn responded, “Directly.”

It’s worth noting that screeners for Peacemaker Season 2 have already gone out, but the last three episodes were kept under wraps. It stands to reason that those last three episodes are going to be pretty insane, and may even feature major cameos like Corenswet’s Superman himself, especially if it’s going to be a straight prequel to Man of Tomorrow. The third episode also saw a pretty big cameo in the form of Rick Flag, who was last seen in The Suicide Squad, albeit an alternate universe version of him. We’ve also already seen Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, so I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of even more Superman cameos to come. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Peacemaker is now available for streaming on HBO Max.
