Metaphor: ReFantazio to Get a Gorgeous Vinyl Soundtrack Release From iam8bit

iam8bit is a well-known for producing high quality vinyl soundtracks with beautiful artwork. Video game music and JRPG fans will be pleased to hear that the company has partnered up with Atlus to release a vinyl soundtrack for Metaphor: ReFantazio, set to ship in Q4 of this year.

As per the press release, the Metaphor: ReFantazio vinyl set comes with a grimoire-style outer box with gold foil, complete with beautiful character portraits. The art is done by Drew Wise, who has handled plenty of album art for iam8bit’s vinyl releases in the past.

“Introducing the Metaphor: ReFantazio 4xLP Vinyl Soundtrack. We worked with Atlus Sound Team to hand-select the perfect arrangement of songs from their breathtaking score, mastering them especially for vinyl. For the discs, we crafted a character-inspired vinyl treatment, each one with its own color to represent the heroes at the heart of Metaphor’s charming cast.
For the album artwork, we teamed up with longtime iam8bit artisan, Drew Wise, to create not just packaging, but a full-on Metaphor-inspired experience. The outer box features gold embossments and a leatherbound-style look, drawing from the storybook motif in the game. We extended this concept to the parchment-esque inner sleeves.
The result is a veritable centerpiece to any vinyl collection, a one-of-a-kind package that celebrates one of the very best roleplaying games of all time.”

Personally, I felt the Metaphor: ReFantazio soundtrack was strong, but ultimately unmemorable. Compared to composer Shoji Meguro’s past work on the Persona series, Metaphor‘s music was a lot less striking. Still, the ambient music fits the game well, and I’ll be the first to admit that battle theme still lives rent-free in my head.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is now available on PC and consoles.
