Like many others, I wondered when Rockstar would announce its inevitable collaboration with Bad Bunny or his celebrity guest appearance in GTA VI. He is the golden boy of Latin music right now. Surely Rockstar wouldn’t miss its chance to feature him in the game in some form? Of course they wouldn’t, because he’s set to be one of the radio station hosts in Grand Theft Auto VI.
Apart from having a killer soundtrack, the GTA games have also always been known for having various radio stations you can tune into while driving. These are way more detailed and fleshed out than you might think, with the hosts offering plenty of fun banter that help add to the overall satirical vibe of the games while providing a comedic break from the main story. In GTA VI, you’ll be able to listen to the radio stations while driving, but also while you’re on foot, via headphones and earbuds connected to smartphones — a modern addition that’s new to the series.
Okay, now let’s talk about who the radio hosts actually are. First up, yes, Bad Bunny will of course be one of the hosts of the Latin music station. He and RaiNao play El Martillo and El Gata on Cocoteo FM. Secondly, Lana Del Rey herself (who also performed the title theme for this year’s 007 First Light) will host Back Country Radio along with Morgan Wallen. I am not at all surprised by these choices. While Lana Del Rey has made a name for herself as a pop star who sings all sorts of mainstream dreamy pop hits, a lot of those songs are also about the romanticization of life in Florida. So of course it makes perfect sense she’d be hosting Back Country Radio.
But that’s not all. Lana Del Rey’s own husband, Jeremy Dufrene, will also be a host on Back Country Radio. For the uninitiated, Dufrene is a captain at a tour boat company in Louisiana. Back Country Radio’s description mentions an airboat driver who will be checking in every now and then too, and I assume that’ll be Dufrene’s role. I love this for them.
Anyway, here are the official descriptions for each radio station, which you can also preview on Rockstar’s site:
- Cocoteo FM: Leonida’s home for the best of modern Latin music. Hosted by El Martillo and La Gata and featuring everything from bachata and merengue to dembow and reggaeton – Cocoteo FM is el party que nunca se apaga.
- Back Country Radio: MW and Delta Dawne blast renegade country music to the Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, and beyond. Stay tuned for Back Country’s roving reporter, swamp meteorologist, and Delta’s not-so-secret lover Mud Dog Mike checking in from the driver’s seat of his Grassrivers airboat.
- AfroBank FM: Turn up the gbedu with Burna and Palmsy, AfroBank FM’s dynamic duo curating the best in African music, from 20th-century classics and undiscovered gems to contemporary sounds like amapiano, 3-step, and more.
- The Chamber 106.6: Crushing metal has landed in Leonida. Jump in the pit with DJ Kerry and DJ Tom for classic metal from the ‘80s and beyond as they channel Leonida’s deep metal roots.
- Flash FM: The Vice City institution that delivers the best in pop music with Robyn and Alex — guaranteed to make you dance no matter where you find yourself in the Goodtime State.
- Dirty South Classics: A little southern hospitality from Trick and Trina, blasting regional rap and hip-hop classics. From the beach to the block, nobody reps Leonida and the South like they do.
Grand Theft Auto VI will release for PS5 on Nov. 19.
