Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Demo Coming on Jan. 7; Progress to Carry Over to Full Game

Square Enix is still in its remake era, and Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is next in the lineup. Ahead of the game’s official launch in February, Square Enix is releasing a demo on Jan. 7. The company has also just dropped the official opening movie on YouTube, which you can check out for yourself down below:

Like with most other demos Square Enix has been putting out recently, your progress in the demo will carry over to the retail version of the game when it comes out in February. In addition to that, demo players will also get the Day Off Dress outfit for Maribel in the full game.

Originally subtitled Fragments of the Forgotten Past, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined follows the story of the hero as he discovers secrets about the mysterious islands surrounding Estard. After discovering some ancient ruins, the hero and his friends are transported to the pasts of the surrounding islands, where they must defeat evil forces in each one. Like the other games in the series, Dragon Quest VII features a turn-based combat system. There’s also a class system in this one, allowing you to customize each party member to your liking.

Personally, I’m still waiting on that Dragon Quest VIII remake. I mean, that was the most popular one before XI came around so it’s gotta just be a matter of time before Square Enix releases that, right? They even included the soundtrack in the Definitive Edition of XI. In the meantime, I’m more than happy to check out Reimagined and expand my personal JRPG database.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is set to be released for PC and consoles on Feb. 5, 2026.
