Borderlands 4 Will Release For the Switch 2 on October 3

Borderlands 4 is one of the most highly anticipated video game releases of 2025. Interestingly, the game was also announced for the Switch 2 along with PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. While the Switch 2 is significantly more powerful than its predecessor, I’m sure plenty of fans probably have their doubts about just how well this thing will run. Well, it looks like 2K and Gearbox may need just a little more time fine-tuning the Switch 2 version, as Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has announced that the Switch 2 version will release nearly a month after its other counterparts.

Pitchford announced on Twitter/X that the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 will be available on Oct. 3. For PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players, the game will come out on Sept. 12.

In the post replies, Pitchford went on to clarify a few things. He acknowledged that Borderlands 3 isn’t available on the Switch or the Switch 2 because the game wasn’t built for those platforms. “Borderlands 4 is everything right now,” he says, explaining that the team will need more time and help to look into bringing Borderlands 3 to Switch 2.

When asked about whether the Switch 2 version of the game will be completely loaded onto the physical cartridge, Pitchford answered that because Borderlands 4 is such a big game, there will be a download even for physical copies. It sounds increasingly likely that Borderlands 4 will end up being one of those Game Key Card situations on the Switch 2 which, honestly, was kinda expected, right?

Borderlands 4 will feature four brand new Vault Hunters and a new planet called Kairos. Just like in previous entries, players can choose to play as one of the four new Vault Hunters and either experience the game solo, or team up with up to three other players. There’s also splitscreen support for two players, which is nice.

Borderlands 4 is set to be released for PC, PlayStation, Xbox on Sept. 12. It’ll be available for Switch 2 on Oct. 3.
