Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Celestial Guardians Expansion Takes Us to Alola

Pokemon Sun and Moon have always had a special place in my heart, so you can imagine how over the moon (heh) I am with Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s latest announcement. Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s next expansion, titled Celestial Guardians, is themed around Sun and Moon and the Alola region.

You can check out the trailer for yourself over at the official Pokemon TCG Pocket YouTube channel.

The highlight Ex cards for this expansion are, of course, Lunala and Solgaleo. These were the legendary Pokemon featured in Sun and Moon, and they’ll also be our poster child for the two new packs. And yes, Celestial Guardians will have two different booster packs for players to pull from, aptly titled the Lunala and Solgaleo packs.

Towards the end of the trailer, we also got a glimpse of an immersive art Lillie card. She’s a Trainer card that lets you heal 40 damage from one of your Stage 2 Pokemon. A little bit niche, and I’m not sure if anyone’s going to slot her in over something like Pokemon Center Lady, which already heals 30 damage on any Pokemon and removes all status effects. Still, it’s hard to deny that the card art looks pretty damn good.

Other Trainer cards include Mallow, Lana, Kiawe, Acerola, and Sophocles. Most notably, there’s also going to be a Rare Candy Trainer card that lets you evolve a Basic Pokemon on the board. Here’s the thing, though, if you already have the relevant Stage 2 Pokemon card in your hand, you can play Rare Candy and go straight to the Stage 2 evolution, effectively bypassing the Stage 1 evolution. That’s pretty huge, as it’ll allow you to ramp up your strategy very quickly.

The Celestial Guardians packs for Pokemon TCG Pocket are set to be released on April 30, once the daily reset time rolls over. So you should be able to start opening the new packs at 2 a.m. Eastern Time on the 30th. With the release of Celestial Guardians, players will also be able to start trading cards from the Shining Revelry set.

Pokemon TCG Pocket is now available to download for free on mobile devices.
