20 Years Later, We’re Still in a Dream… Snake Eater

We’re still about three months out from the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but Konami is wasting no time in getting the hype train going for this one. Konami has just released a video showing the new opening for Delta: Snake Eater, featuring the new graphics and a re-recording of the iconic song by original singer Cynthia Harrell.

You can check out the video for yourself down below:

And here’s the original opening for reference:

It’s basically a 1:1 recreation of the opening scene, just with the sexier graphics and new vocals. You can expect Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater to be a 1:1 remake of the 2004 game as well, just like what Konami did with the Silent Hill 2 remake last year. There isn’t really anything to complain about, though I will say that the muddier graphics of the PS2 did lend a certain charm to that original opening. I’m a fan of how good Snake looks in this updated version though, so I won’t complain too much.

Props to Cynthia Harrell as well, who’s proven that she’s still able to hit those ridiculously high notes without missing a beat. That’s impressive stuff.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a remake of 2004’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. While it’s the third entry in the mainline series, it serves as a prequel in the chronological timeline. Players take control of Naked Snake, AKA Big Boss, who goes on an undercover mission in the Soviet Union. His mentor, The Boss, is there with him at first, but things quickly go awry. It’s widely regarded as the best game in the series thanks to its memorable boss fights and emotional story. The game was directed by Hideo Kojima, who left Konami rather unceremoniously after Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to be released for PC and consoles on Aug. 28.
