Supriya Ganesh Won’t Be in The Pitt Season 3 & I Am Devastated

The Pitt is home to a cast of colorful characters, most of them pretty jaded and cynical simply by virtue of working in the hectic ER, but some continue to serve as a hopeful ray of light. One of them is none other than Dr. Samira Mohan, played by Supriya Ganesh. While she’s still a series regular in The Pitt Season 2, reports indicate that she will depart the show at the end of the Season 2 run.

According to Variety, Ganesh will not be in The Pitt Season 3. In her place, Ayesha Harris, who plays Dr. Parker Ellis, will step up to become a series regular. Ellis has shown up in both seasons as a night shift doctor, though we haven’t gotten to see all that much of her.

With the way The Pitt is structured, it makes sense that we’re going to see residents come and go. In Season 2, we’ve gotten hints that Mohan has been thinking about her next steps and the type of medicine she wants to specialize in. Both Dr. Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) and Robby (Noah Wyle) have suggested that she consider geriatrics, albeit in very different ways. Whereas Dr. Al seemed more nurturing and identified that Mohan had an uncanny ability to relate to the old in ways few are able to, Robby opted to point out the geriatrics was more her speed.

This, of course, is in reference to Mohan being notoriously slow in moving from patient to patient. Given how hectic the ER is, Robby wants his doctors to diagnose and treat quickly, but Mohan simply has a tendency to spend as much time as she needs with each patient. It’s what makes her a good doctor, but it also means she’s not necessarily the best fit for the ER.

Look, I get it. Maybe her story’s done and it’s time for her to go. But that won’t stop me from being sad about it, dammit. Apart from Whitaker (Gerran Howell) and Mel (Taylor Dearden), Mohan was the only other doctor on the show who wasn’t completely worn down by her cynicism and burnout, though we did see her suffer from a panic attack in Season 2 after all the stresses finally got to her.

Here’s hoping she gets to clear the air with Robby before leaving, though.

The Pitt is now available for streaming on HBO Max.
