Manousos Oviedo is shaping up to be one of the more important major characters in Pluribus. In episode 6, we see him fiddling with his short-wave radio again, presumably trying to see if there are any other survivors out there. He goes back to one of his previously tested frequencies, and we hear some strange noises. The show has yet to reveal what these noises are, but I think we can make some decent guesses.
What Was the Sound From Manousos’ Radio in Pluribus?
In Pluribus episode 6, Manousos hears a strange noise from the radio on one of the frequencies. The first time he landed on his frequency, he marked with a question mark. When he revisits it again, he’s still unsure of what the noise is and marks it with yet another question mark.
There are two possible answers to this. The first is that this radio frequency is some sort of communication method for the hivemind. We know that all of humanity has been linked together with some sort of psychic glue, as explained in the first episode, but what does that actually mean? Perhaps the strange noises we heard on the radio could be the aforementioned psychic glue that’s keeping the hive together. Perhaps by destroying the signals on this frequency, the hivemind could be dismantled.
The second possibility is that the hivemind could already be broadcasting the RNA virus to another civilization. Going back to the episode, the noises on the frequency sounded like it could’ve been four repeating tones, just like the RNA virus when the scientists discovered it in episode 1. Perhaps, after a mere nine days since the infection, the hivemind is already preparing to broadcast the virus to continue the spread.
And those are my theories on what Manousos heard on the radio in Pluribus. Either way, it’s clear that there’s more to this radio frequency than meets the eye. I’m pretty confident it’s gotta be one of these two theories though, and it might very well have something to do with reversing the virus.
