After a little bit of a slower start, Pluribus is finally starting to dole out some answers about the hivemind and how everything works. The show’s fifth episode ends on a killer cliffhanger, leaving audiences wondering what exactly Carol saw in the bag before the scene cut to black. I think we can make some pretty good guesses.
What Carol Saw in the Bags in Pluribus Episode 5
This is just speculation, but I can’t really imagine it being anything else. At the end of Pluribus episode 5, I’m of the opinion that Carol found dead bodies or remains in the bags stacked in the refrigerator room. It’s the only thing that could cause her to jump back and react in horror.
There’s other evidence that supports this theory too. Most notably, when Carol visits the dairy factory earlier on in the episode, she finds the bags full of white powder getting picked apart by crows. And what are crows if not scavengers known for picking away at dead bodies or remains?
Why Is the Hivemind Eating Dead Bodies?
So if we assume that the infected Plurbs are indeed somehow using dead bodies to manufacture the white powder, then mixing it with water to drink it out of a milk carton, the next question is why? Perhaps this is how the Plurbs are inheriting all the memories of every person in the world? Perhaps, but that’s unlikely, since they certainly didn’t need to eat Helen in order to get her memories.
It seems more likely that this is the only way to sustain themselves. This could prove to be problematic though, especially since they’re so against killing and violence. They will run out of dead bodies eventually, and what happens then? Will they start cannibalizing each other? How long before they turn against the remaining survivors and eat them too?
Anyway, those are questions for future episodes. For now, that’s all you need to know about what Carol found in the bags in Pluribus episode 5. It’s Soylent Green, I tell you!
