Stardew Valley’s Switch 2 Upgrade Will Be Free of Charge

As if Stardew Valley could be even more awesome than it already is. Turns out, it can. During this week’s Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that Stardew Valley would be getting a Switch 2 upgrade. Before anything else, you can check out the short video down below with the announcement:

The Switch 2 version will come with Joy-Con mouse support, as well as GameShare functionality where up to four players can enjoy the game’s multiplayer features with just one copy of the game. The latter is pretty exciting for folks who just want more multiplayer accessibility, while the former I could probably do without, though I can definitely see it being helpful for certain tasks. Mouse controls would allow more precision in watering crops and doing things like organizing your chests and kegs.

In addition to that, Eric Barone has also taken to Twitter to announce that the Switch 2 upgrade for Stardew Valley will be made completely free. This means that if you already own the Switch 1 version, you don’t have to pay anything at all to upgrade, like you normally would with most other Switch games. The exception to this is Japan, where you’re legally required to pay for the product, but Barone has stated that “it will cost the minimum possible amount” there. That’s a huge win for Stardew Valley fans and it’s only made me even more excited to jump back into the game to start up a whole new farm.

Fun fact: I’ve got over 200 hours in Stardew Valley but I’ve never actually made it part Year 1. I just keep restarting the game and losing steam by the time I get to winter. Maybe things will be different this time?

Stardew Valley is now available on Switch, and the Switch 2 upgrade will be available this fall.
