Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse Full Walkthrough

Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse is by and large a fairly straightforward mystery visual novel, but there are times when the game may require you to think a little outside of the box in order to progress. To ensure that you never get stuck, I’ve put together a full walkthrough for Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse to help guide you.

A few things to note. Whenever you talk to a character, be sure to exhaust all their dialogue options multiple times until a checkmark appears. Even if you’ve already selected an option once, their dialogue hasn’t actually exhausted until you see that checkmark. Sometimes, you may need to explore other options in order to get the checkmark on a previous one, and I’ll make sure to note those special cases. I also recommend reading all of your unlocked Files, Updates, and Profiles in between chapters. They can pile up pretty quickly but they always offer up important information, so make sure to read them when you can.

Without further ado, let’s get into it.

Introduction to the Storyteller

When you start the game, you’ll be introduced to the Storyteller, an enigmatic NPC who sets up the story of Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse and goes over the basic controls with you. He’ll ask you if you know about the Seven Mysteries of Honjo and if you say yes, he’ll tell you there’s nothing he needs to warn you about.

Click on the Storyteller and exhaust the following dialogue options:

  • What is this place?
  • Who am I?

After that, the story will begin proper.

On the Boat

The first chapter of Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse will introduce you to main protagonist Yuza Minakuchi and his best friend Azami Kumoi. Here, the game will start the diving tutorial where your goal is to harvest as many sea creatures as you can before you run out of breath.

A quick tip on diving: when you first start, you can probably only harvest up to two items before you start to run out of breath. After harvesting two items, press the X button to look up at the boat, then press A to return. Returning to the boat also takes time, so keep an eye on your breath meter.

When you surface, you’ll receive points based on your harvest, and if you rank up you can improve your diving attributes. I recommend maxing out Diving as soon as you can, and then prioritizing Searching and Swimming. At this point, you can either continue diving, or stop and progress to the next scene. If this is your first playthrough, I recommend that you stop diving and talk to Azami to see the next scene.

You’ll meet Chie and Kikuko for the first time, both of whom will provide more backstory on the disaster that happened five years ago. Just as Yuza and Azami decide to investigate further, however, the game tells us that disaster strikes again that night, killing everyone on the island and giving you your first Game Over screen.

You’ll then meet the Storyteller again, who tells you to try diving again. But this time, look behind you.

Diving Once Again

Once you’re back in control, initiate the diving mini-game again. This time, once it starts, turn around 180 degrees and head straight and slightly to the right. You’ll see a hole in the seabed and an orange question mark icon. Swim towards it and Yuza will automatically start moving on his own. You’ll then have an encounter which kicks off the opening credits for real, and also give you a Dive Failed screen.

After that, return to the boat with Azami.

Mocking Bird Sticker #08

Screenshot captured by Retcon

Before talking to Azami, look around you with the right stick and spot a Mocking Bird sticker on the side of the boat. Here, you’ll get Mocking Bird #8: Tit-for-Tat.

Talk to Azami and exhaust all dialogue options:

  • What happened afterwards?
  • “Tomokazuki”?
  • There’s more

When asking about the Tomokazuki, press the ZL button to use the Recollection feature, which will unlock a new chapter for you to explore in the Story Chart. After completing this chapter, you’ll be able to access the Story Chart. You’ll also unlock Memories of the Last Summer, and Something I Want To Do.

Something I Want To Do

We start the chapter with Yuza and Azami once again. Exhaust all dialogue options with Azami, and when Yuza says “The mermaid who rescued me back then was…”, choose “My mom”. Continue to exhaust all dialogue options until Tsukasa and Sato show up.

When Tsukasa says “important business of our own to handle”, press ZL to unlock another Recollection chapter. Completing this chapter will unlock Cursed and Advice.

Advice

Finally, some new playable characters in Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse. This time, we start as Sato and Tsukasa. The pair will eventually run into a strange man and woman named Sodo and Yumeko. When Yumeko says “running all over the region”, press ZL to unlock another Recollection chapter.

Once you gain control, select the Bay on the map. Exhaust the dialogue options:

  • Talk about summer break
  • Talk about TV shows

You need to exhaust all dialogue from these two options, and then choose Talk about advice to get Tsukasa to open up. After exhausting that, choose Talk about Shotaro.

Futamigaura Investigation

In this chapter, we get to play as Yumeko Shiki and Sodo Kiryu. Speak with Ide, and feel free to examine the surroundings and the two men for background info, then examine the corpse near the water.

Exhaust the dialogue for the following examination options:

  • Head
  • Torso
  • Tail

Talk to Ide and exhaust his dialogue, then talk to Sodo. Talk to Ide again and exhaust the dialogue options:

  • Talk about department

When Ide says “body from the other day”, press ZL to unlock a Recollection chapter.

Unidentified Skeletons

Another Recollection chapter in Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse, we get a closer look at Yumeko and Sodo’s investigation efforts. Exhaust the dialogue options:

  • Skeletal remains
  • State of the sea

When Sodo asks if you’re familiar with the Heiki, you can respond with “Of course” or “Uh, well…”. I picked the latter to have Sodo give me a history lesson. When the conversation ends, look behind to find a woman standing nearby and click on her.

Mocking Bird #13

Screenshot captured by Retcon

After talking to the woman, Sodo will investigate on his own. When he returns, don’t talk to him yet. Instead, examine the concrete barrier for another Mocking Bird sticker. This is #13: Maverick Manny.

Exhaust Sodo’s dialogue options:

  • About the portrait sketch
  • About the woman
  • About the unidentified skeletons
  • About the Curse of the Raging Waves

This will unlock Ise-Shima Investigation.

Cursed

Now’s a good time to jump back to Azami and Yuza if we’re following chronological order. This is also the first time you’ll be able to explore the island freely.

First, let’s start with Chuo Street.

Torii

And here, you’ll find Tsukasa and Sato, who promptly run off. Azami and Yuza decide not to tell Shotaro about Sato’s whereabouts until they learn more.

Exhaust all dialogue options with Tsuyu:

  • Working as an ama diver
  • Underwater gathering tips
  • Tsuyu’s condition
  • About mom (unlocked after exhausting Working as an ama diver)

Exhaust all dialogue options with Wakamura:

  • About Tsuyu
  • About the Raging Waves curse bearer

Ask Tsuyu about Mom’s curse and exhaust all dialogue.

  • Curse of the Raging Waves
  • Underwater gathering tips

Exhaust all dialogue options with them:

When asking about them, hit ZL when they say “traveled around the mainland” to unlock a Recollection chapter. However, you won’t be able to play this chapter until you’ve met other conditions.

Chuo Street Part 2

Finally, head back to Chuo Street where Azami and Yuza go over what they learn. This also marks the end of the chapter and unlocks Time to Meet Up.

Memories of the Last Summer

Now might be a good time to check out this chapter. There are no dialogue options to choose; instead, you’re treated to vignettes of Yuza, Azami, Tsukasa, and Sato enjoying last summer together.

Ise-Shima Investigation

We’re back in control of Yumeko in Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse. Here, you’ll get to talk to Yoshiatsu Yamashina. Before that, however, it’s Mocking Bird time.

Mocking Bird #09

Screenshot captured by Retcon

Before talking to Yamashina, look for a Mocking Bird sticker on a large rock in the garden. Examine it to find #9: Kiting Killer.

Now, talk to Yamashina and exhaust all dialogue options:

  • About Yamashina
  • About Yumeko
  • About mermaids (you’ll be able to progress here after exhausting Wakamura)
  • About the portrait sketch
  • Wakamura (unlocked after exhausting About Yumeko)

Once the conversation is wrapped up, you’ll be taken to the map screen. Go to Ise City.

Ise City

Here, talk to Ide and exhaust all dialogue options:

  • About Yamashina

  • About Somekawa

Use Think and Yumeko will reach a revelation of her own. On the map, go to Toba City Coast.

  1. Exhaust all Threaten options so Circe knows Yumeko is from Paranormal Affairs.
  2. Exhaust all Appease options to find out about the relic.
  3. Exhaust Question to assume Circe is from Paranormal Affairs.
  4. Choose Give up.
  5. When Circe says “Really? Thanks.”, press ZL to use the curse on her.

Time to Meet Up

Head to the Bay, where you’ll watch a series of endings before seeing your first bad ending. Don’t fret, though. The Storyteller will let you know that this is necessary to continuing the story.

This will unlock Sacrifice, Arriving on Kameshima, and Discovering the Mermaids of Ise Bay, which was the ??? memory we got from Avi earlier.

Discovering the Mermaids of Ise Bay

Examine your surroundings, Circe, and use the Think action to get some Files updates.

Talk to Circe:

  • Talk about this place
  • Talk about Betsuho mermaids
  • Talk about the Heike

After talking to her, move to Ano Town and examine the surroundings and the shrine.

Mocking Bird #16

Screenshot captured by Retcon

You’ll also find another Mocking Bird sticker by examining the electrical pole. This one is #16, Li’l Blue.

Speak to Circe and exhaust your dialogue options:

Move to Futamigaura when you’re done and examine your surroundings, then talk to Circe again:

  • Talk about Futamigaura mermaids

Examine the Starry Sky, then talk to Circe again and talk about constellations. Face the island, and pan the camera slightly to the right, then click on the red star.

From the red star, look directly up and click on the blue star. To the left of that, find another blue star and click on it. Then, look up and rotate the camera a little to find the third blue star.

When Circe asks: “What is another name for the star Hikoboshi?” Answer with “Altair”. Then, go to Mount Asama.

Examine your surroundings and the cityscape, then talk to Circe:

When you examine the business card, you’ll see a flashback introducing you to Kippei Ikoma. Talk to Ikoma, then talk to Circe to progress.

After examining the map, talk to Circe and exhaust your dialogue options. Then, examine the map again and pick it up. Examine the symbol and the map itself, then flip the map over and examine the spots.

Screenshot captured by Retcon

Use the right stick to point the map towards the window so that you can have the light shine through it. With the map facing you, click on the bigger dot on the bottom right. The answer is Altair.

Finally, examine the sketch and talk to Circe, and talk about the mermaid sketch.

Sacrifice

Mocking Bird #10

  • My topic
  • Your topic

When Shotaro asks Sato to go to Tokyo with him, choose whichever option you’d prefer.

Treasure Hunt Part 2

To solve this puzzle, you want to rotate the box and line it up with the landscape. Look at the dots at the bottom of each side of the box, and do them in order from one to four. I’ve included screenshots of the solution down below:

Puzzle 1

Puzzle 2

  • Talk about the ama diver
  • Talk about the box
  • Talk about Taishima

Talk to Circe, then talk to Ikoma again about Taishima.

Descendant and Duty

Use the Think action. When speculating about the descendant, choose the following options:

  • Talk about the tamatebako
  • Talk about legends (unlocks after talking about the iron box)

Turn around and examine the Shikigami. Talk to Somekawa and exhaust the dialogue options:

  • Talk about the trade
  • Talk about her duty
  • Talk about the tamatebako

Use the curse stone when the prompt appears.

Arriving on Kameshima

There’s not much gameplay here as you’ll just watch a scene where Circe says the place is oozing cursed energy.

Confession

Talk to Tsukasa:

  • Talk about yourself
  • Talk about Tsukasa

Use the Think action, then choose Talk about yourself:

  • Talk about Yuza’s mother
  • Talk about something else

Go to the Wakamura Residence and examine the surroundings to get the telephone to ring. Pick up the phone and choose whichever dialogue options you’d like. Talk to Wakamura, then move to Chuo Street.

Mocking Bird #14

Examine the side of the building to find Mocking Bird sticker #14: Maverick Mandy.

Talk to Shotaro:

  • Slashing curse

During the Tsuyu flashback, talk to Tsuyu to progress.

Take out the mirror, then use the right stick to turn the camera until Kameshi-maru is in the reflection. After that, move to the Bay.

Use the mirror and move the camera around until you see the warrior in the reflection. Put it away, and then click on the figure standing near the slope. Talk to Wakamura and choose whichever dialogue option you’d like.

At this point, the Storyteller will check in and ask, “Who is the other 800-year immortal on Kameshima?” The answer is Yuza Minakuchi.

The Tragedy of Kameshime

Talk to Tsukasa, then use the Think action. After that, take out the mirror and check your surroundings until Tsukasa speaks again.

When she asks, “Could the curse be using this as a marker?”, the answer is the mirror.

When the question pops up, “The assassin who used the curse to kill so many…”, say that you know who it is and point at Kikuko Tsutsui.

At this point, choose to surrender. This will unlock Ending #1: The Tragedy of Kameshima.

Vision of the Future

  • Talk about the curse stone
  • Talk about the tamatebako
  • Talk about Ikoma

While looking at the mirror, select the symbol.

It’s possible to progress even if you don’t throw away the business card here. Kikuko will try to curse you but Circe will intervene. When this happens, however, you’ll need to shove Kikuko into the ocean and use the curse stone, thus killing her instead of capturing her alive.

Obsession

Talk to Avi:

  • About Somekawa
  • About curse stones

  • About Somekawa

Talk to Circe again to end the chapter.

Point of Contact

Mocking Bird #20

Examine the balcony of the building to find Mocking Bird sticker #20: Buzzboozler.

Talk to Yumeko and say “I know it!”.

This is an important part of the story. Either Sato or Tsukasa can be the point of contact, and it’s crucial that it be Tsukasa. To get Tsukasa to be the point of contact, look at the ground behind you and click on the keychain.

Screenshot captured by Retcon

Go to the Minakuchi Residence.

Mocking Bird #04

  • About Yuza

When asked whether you encountered a mermaid by any chance, say that you did. Then, exhaust the dialogue options:

  • Mermaids
  • 800-year immortals

While diving, look behind you to find the hole in the seabed. To the right of it, you should see the symbol itself, sealed up with chains.

Screenshot captured by Retcon

Your job is to harvest it by pressing A, though you’ll likely need to max out your abilities to be able to do so comfortably. Before breaking the seal and going into the hole, I’d recommend grabbing the nearby Mocking Bird sticker first.

Mocking Bird #12

You can find another sticker near the hole at the seabed, on the rock formation. This one is Mocking Bird #12: Baby Bravo.

Mocking Bird #01

Screenshot captured by Retcon

You can get this one once you’ve broken the seal and entered the tunnel. While you’re in the tunnel, look up to find Mocking Bird sticker #01: Jiving Javas.

  • Talk about Kikuko Tsutsui
  • Talk about the business card
  • Talk about reason for coming

Intentions

Talk to Avi, Circe, then Sodo. While looking at Ikoma, activate your Vision Ability.

Real Name

This chapter is a test of how closely you’ve been paying attention to the story in Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse. When asked about Kippei Ikoma’s true identity, the answer is Komatsu Sadamune.

That’s not all, though. When Sato says she knows who he really is, the answer is Taiga no Tomoshige.

Use the Think action, then examine Tomoshige. After a while, he’ll speak automatically. From here, you can choose to either obey Tomoshige or refuse. If you obey, you’ll get Ending #4: Taira no Tomoshige’s Desire. If you refuse, the story continues.

We Need a Plan

Talk to Tsukasa, Azami, then Sato. Then, talk to Sodo.

Mocking Bird #17

Examine the balcony for Mocking Bird sticker #17: Can-do Toucan.

Use the Think action, and when you’re ready, talk to Sodo to tell him your plan. For things to go smoothly, here’s who and what you need to pick:

  1. Sodo: Feast of Shadows
  2. Circe: Shikigami

Conclusion

Go to Chuo Street, then the Jetty, then the Bay. This unlocks Ending #5: Sato Shiranami’s Curse. This is generally regarded as the good ending, though, of course, it is possible to get a better ending that doesn’t involve Sato dying the next day…

Accepted Fate

Use the Think action and exhaust the following options:

  • Culprit behind the massacre
  • Present state of Kameshima
  • About Azami and Tsukasa
  • Curse of the Raging Wave
  • Diving results
  • About Sato

When thinking about Sato, press ZL to unlock a Recollection memory.

You Leave

Exhaust all Think options, then examine Sato. Rotate the camera around, then talk to Sato again to get the keychain.

We Need a Plan Part 2

Go back to We Need a Plan, then examine Sato. When Yuza says “I thought I could avoid speaking to her, but I don’t know if I can hold back anymore”, press ZL to unlock a Recollection memory.

Natural Talent

Exhaust all Think options. Rotate the camera, then talk to Yuza.

The Night

You’ll be able to play this chapter as both Yuza and Sato. In both chapters, exhaust all Think options, examine the other character, then talk to them.

After that, the Storyteller will show up and ask, “What can be done to intertwine two lives that were never meant to stay together?” The answer is: “Sato Shiranami must once again be made immortal.”

Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse True Ending

After reaching Ending 5, go to the menu and choose to load a save file. Scroll all the way to the bottom to find a new, faded save file and load that up. You’ll be treated to a flashback conversation between who I assume to be Mare and Sobae.

Next, go to the Story Chart and load up the Claims chapter. Sato needs to be in possession of the tamatebako at this point. Start the chapter from the Minakuchi Residence, then examine the Altar Shelf and put the scale into the tamatebako. Go to the menu and read the chat log, where you’ll find the instructions for calling the mermaid.

Now, go back to the title screen. Use the cursor to click on the mermaid four times with a three-second gap between each click. You’ll then be able to talk to Sobae. Exhaust the following dialogue options:

  • What do you mean by “boundary”?
  • Tell me about my mom
  • What happened on the day of the disaster

When Sobae tells you there’s nothing she can do, tell her that there is, indeed, something she can do. When the scene ends, go back to the Story Chart and start the Conclusion chapter. Resume from the Bay. When you get the chance, choose “Actually…” to unlock the chapter titled An Eternal Conclusion. This will give you the best possible ending to the game.

And that does it for our Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse full walkthrough.
