Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s Fox Hunt Mode Will Not Have Cross-Play

Here’s a bit of disappointing news for Metal Gear fans. The online multiplayer mode, Fox Hunt, that was announced for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater last month will not have cross-play functionality. This comes off the back of the recent announcement that Fox Hunt won’t be available at launch either, and will be released later in the fall instead.

The official Japanese Metal Gear Twitter account put out a statement that “cross-play between different platforms will not be supported.” The mode will be available on PS5, Xbox, and PC. However, if you want to enjoy the mode with your friends, you’ll need to make sure that you’re all playing on the same platform.

This is definitely disappointing to hear, and fans are understandably unhappy about the news as well. For starters, cross-play has become somewhat of a given in the modern video game landscape. Besides, the lack of cross-play doesn’t bode well for the longevity of Fox Hunt. After all, an online multiplayer mode lives and dies by the number of online players you have at any point in time. If the player base dies out, so too will the game. Given that Snake Eater is primarily a single-player experience, Fox Hunt getting a delayed release and not having cross-play support could hurt its player base quite significantly. It remains to be seen whether Konami will eventually patch in the feature, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one.

If you’re planning on getting the game early enough, it seems you’ll have to jump in on the Fox Hunt hype on launch day to see everything it has to offer before the hype eventually fades.

Well, at least we’ll still have Snake Eater to enjoy, which continues to be an excellent game even today. Even if some of its themes and elements might be a little outdated at this point.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to be released for PS5, Xbox, and PC on Aug. 28.
