Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Weapons Guide

Now that you know how to get yourself some weapons in Snake Eater, let’s go over some of the basic controls, as well as how to equip them.

How to Equip Weapons

Once you pick up a weapon, bring up the Survival Viewer and choose the Backpack option. From here, you can use L1 and R1 to tab between your weapons and items. Under the weapons menu, select the weapons that you want to equip by pressing the X button.

Do note that the more weapons you equip, the more weight Snake will carry, and this will negatively impact his stamina regeneration rate. Once a weapon is equipped properly, back in the game, hold down the R1 button and use the right stick to sift through your weapons, then release R1 once you land on the one you want to use.

How to Shoot and Reload

With a weapon equipped, hold the L2 button to aim, then press R2 to shoot. When aiming in third-person, Snake Eater features auto-aim functionality that lets the reticle immediately snap to the closest enemy. If you want more precision, press the R1 button when aiming to enter first-person view. This will allow you to move the gun around and aim with increased accuracy.

To reload your gun, simply press the circle button while it’s equipped.

CQC-Compatible Weapons

Some weapons are CQC-compatible. Smaller weapons like the Mk22 and M1911A1 will work with CQC, which means that even while you have them equipped, you can still grab enemies with CQC, choke them out, or interrogate them.

However, heavier weapons like sniper rifles and assault rifles cannot be used with CQC. You’ll need to unequip them before sneaking up on an enemy to choke them out. The good news is that you can equip and unequip your last weapon very quickly simply by tapping the R1 button.

Best Weapons in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Snake Eater can be beaten with pretty much any weapon in the game, but if I had to pick the best weapons to use, it would be the Mk22 and the Mosin Nagant sniper rifle.

The Mk22 tranquilizer gun may have gotten a slight nerf in Delta, forcing you to account for greater bullet drop, but it’s still the best and most versatile weapon in the game. For starters, you can take out every single enemy non-lethally with it, and it’s CQC-compatible. It works on all enemy types, including animals.

The Mosin Nagant is a non-lethal sniper rifle that you can get by defeating The End non-lethally. This can come in very handy in a variety of situations where the Mk22 isn’t quite enough to get the job done. The only drawback is that there’s no suppressor on this thing, so get ready for the blowback.

Considering the fact that non-lethal takedowns come with so many useful rewards, it’s hard to point to any other weapon in the game as the best aside from these two.
