Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater marks a huge jump from the previous two games in the series as it introduces the Camo Index, which plays a very big part in Snake’s journey. Here’s a complete Snake Eater Camo guide that goes over how to get every Uniform in the game, how to use them, and how the Camo Index works.

How to Equip Uniforms
With all the Uniforms at your disposal, I suppose you’ll be wanting to know how to equip them too. Bring up the Survival Viewer and select the Camouflage menu.
From here, you’ll see a full list of all the Uniforms you’ve collected so far, along with a number to the right indicating whether they’ll help or hinder with your Camo Index. Select the Uniform you want to equip and press the X button, and you’re set. You can also press R1 to swap between Uniforms and your Face Camo, which will also help with your Camo Index.
What Does Camo Index Do in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater?

As the name suggests, the Camo Index is a numerical indicator that shows you just how well you’re blending in with your environment. At the bottom-center of the screen, you’ll see Snake’s Life and Stamina bars, as well as a percentage indicator next to it. This is your Camo Index. The higher the percentage is, the better your camouflage is, which means that enemies are less likely to spot you.
Your Camo Index is intrinsically linked with the Uniforms you have equipped. For instance, if you’re in a forested area, you may want to consider equipping the Olive Drab or DPM Uniforms to increase your Camo Index. Enemies will be slower to spot you, allowing you to get the drop on them. However, this doesn’t mean you’ll ever be completely invisible to your foes (unless you use something with stealth), and enemies will still spot you if they get too close to you, or if they run into you.
In addition to that, your Camo Index also changes depending on whether Snake is standing, running, staying still, crouching, or laying prone. Naturally, laying prone and staying still will give your Camo Index the biggest boost, while standing up and moving will cause it to decrease dramatically.
Best Uniforms in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
A lot of the Uniforms you get in this game are great, but there are some that stand out above the rest. Here are my favorites:
- Auscam
- DPM
- Moss
- Snake
- Sneaking
- Spirit
Auscam and DPM can be obtained from the very start of the game if you choose “I love MGS1!” when starting a new file. Auscam reduces all damage taken, while DPM doubles your Life recovery rate — both fantastic abilities to have.
Moss and Snake are my personal favorite Uniforms for sneaking around. Moss is incredibly useful in pretty much any green areas, and it also gives you Stamina regen. Snake can’t be obtained till the end of the game, but it giving you a high Camo Index for any environment makes it very versatile too.
Finally, the Spirit Uniform is also a solid one thanks to the Stamina drain and its ability to completely silence your footsteps. It’s great for pure stealth playthroughs and I’d recommend it for anyone starting new game plus.
