How to Increase All Grades in Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is part visual novel, part tactical RPG. That latter bit is actually important, as you can’t get more story without fighting a few battles. And to do that effectively, you need good grades. Here’s how to increase all five grades in The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy.

You can spend your free time with any character in The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, and they’ll help increase Takumi’s grades in a particular subject. Every grade has two sub-categories; if a character only specializes in one sub-category, you’ll get a maximum of 10 points towards that grade. If they’re able to level two sub-categories, you get a maximum of five points for each sub-category in that grade.

Listed below are all of the characters and their respective grades:

CharacterGrade and Subject
TakemaruGym: Mobility, Endurance
HirukoMath: Analysis
DarumiLinguistics: Creativity
EitoMath: Calculation, Analysis
TsubasaScience: Technology
GakuSocial Studies: Observation, Exploration
ImaScience: Investigation, Technology
KakoSocial Studies: Observation
ShoumaLinguistics: Literacy, Creativity
KyoshikaGym: Mobility
YugamuScience: Investigation
KuraraSocial Studies: Exploration
NozomiMath: Calculation
MokoGym: Endurance

Whenever you get free time, check your map and look for a character to spend time with. You’ll then get points towards the sub-categories listed above, and slowly improve Takumi’s grades.

Increasing Grades With Gifts

While spending time with your allies is a fine way to increase your grades, you can speed things up by giving them gifts.

To do this, head to the Arcade and interact with the Gift-o-Matic. From here, you can use the materials you’ve gathered so far to craft presents. If you give a character a present they really like, this will give you a huge experience boost for that specific grade.

This is a lot more efficient than just spending time with them, but it does require a lot of resources, and you do need to go through a bit of trial and error to figure out what everyone likes.

Reading at the Library

When you reach day 20 in The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, the Library will become available to you. Here, you can spend two free time slots to read a book, which will give you a huge experience boost for a chosen grade.

Books can be reread, but you’ll get diminishing returns. I recommend finishing the books for each grade, then focus on gifts or just spending time with your allies.

What Do Grades Do in The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy?

Alright, now that we’ve talked about how to increase your grades, let’s go over what they actually do.

For starters, improving your grades in The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy will allow Takumi to learn new combat skills and upgrade existing ones. You can do this in the Training Room or the Garage. When upgrading skills, you’ll see that each one has a requirement. You usually need materials you get from exploration, and you also need to have a specific grade raised to a certain level. Once those conditions are met, you can strengthen that skill.

In addition to that, higher grades may also lead to better probabilities when you encounter chance cards during exploration. You’ll have better luck at avoiding danger and finding resources, which should make things a lot easier too.
