How to Beat The Sorrow in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

The Metal Gear Solid series has always been known for fun and unique boss fights, and Snake Eater is no different. Out of all the boss fights we’ve seen in this game so far, though, The Sorrow is easily the most unique and interesting. Here’s how to beat The Sorrow in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

Unlike the other bosses we’ve encountered so far, The Sorrow doesn’t require you to do any actual damage to him. In fact, this “fight”, if you can call it that, is deceptively simple. To beat The Sorrow in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, all you have to do is keep walking straight and make it to the end of the river. Alternatively, you can just die and use the Revival Pill on the Game Over screen to bring Snake back to life and continue the story.

Both methods are equally valid, but you’ll get a little extra something if you actually make it to the end.

Making It to the End of the River

As you make your way through the river, the ghosts of all the enemies you’ve killed so far will start walking towards Snake. All you have to do is avoid making contact with them. At the same time, The Sorrow will occasionally send out spirit blasts towards you, and you have to avoid those as well. Keep doing this, and eventually you’ll reach the end of the river where you can touch The Sorrow himself, which will end the encounter. Do note that touching The Sorrow will also cause Snake to die, and you have to use the Revival Pill to revive Snake in order to progress.

Ironically, this fight is a lot easier if you haven’t killed any enemies at all in your playthrough. So if you’ve been making it a point to only use the Mk22 tranquilizer gun, you should be good. If not, you’ll have a lot more ghosts to avoid on the way to the end.

The only exceptions are the Cobra Unit members. Even if you dealt with The Pain, The Fear, and The End non-lethally, those three will still show up in the river because, y’know, they all blew themselves the hell up when you defeated them anyway.

If you manage to touch The Sorrow at the very end, you’ll be rewarded with the Spirit camo uniform later on.

If you don’t want to bother with this encounter, simply hold down the circle button to have Snake dive underwater and let him drown. Once the Game Over screen appears, press and hold left on the d-pad to access your items, then select the Revival Pill and press X to use it. You only have a small amount of time to do this, so don’t dilly-dally.

The Sorrow Rewards

If you make it to the end of the river, you’ll get the Spirit camo uniform, which is one of the coolest uniforms you can get in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, in my opinion. It offers decent camouflage in most areas, and it also completely silences your footsteps and allows you to restore stamina while performing CQC on enemy soldiers.

It’s also the easiest uniform to get among all the Cobra Unit members, so I’d definitely recommend taking the time to nab this one.
