Unlike the previous two games in the series, Octopath Traveler 0 allows you to create your custom character from scratch. Aside from choosing your starting job, you’ll also need to select a Learned Skill to start with. So with that out of the way, here’s my take on the best Learned Skill to start with in Octopath Traveler 0.
Which Learned Skill Should You Choose in Octopath Traveler 0?

In my view, the two best Learned Skills to choose first in Octopath Traveler 0 are Twin Shot Mastery and Healing Prayer Mastery. The former allows you to deal damage to a foe with any weapon type, while the second heals a target and restores their SP.
When you first get started in the game, you’ll have Phenn and Stia as your first two companions, a Carpenter and a Hunter. Both are dedicated damage dealers, which means that having a healing skill at your disposal can be very useful. If you want to play it safe, go with Healing Prayer Mastery. It’ll be a little while before you get to recruit your first Cleric (unless you change the protagonist’s job to Cleric), so this can come in very handy.
That being said, I think Twin Shot Mastery has a lot more longevity in the game. Because of how the combat system works, you’re always going to want to focus on breaking an enemy’s shields, and Twin Shot Mastery can help you get extra hits in even if you don’t have the required weapon type equipped on that character. You’ll definitely get a lot more mileage out of this one as compared with Healing Prayer Mastery, but you’ll need to make do without a healer in the starting hours of the game.
